% day surfer forecast

SHORT-TERM (second half of work week)
The moderate trade wind fetch extending well out into the western Atlantic north of the Bahamas will continue to generate a weak/marginally rideable ESE/SE wind swell which should bottom out around 0.5-occ 1′ Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning. Weather will be hot and dry, though the beaches will be cooled each afternoon by fresh sea breezes.
LONG TERM (post holiday weekend)
The prolonged period of onshore flow will continue and strengthen each afternoon through the end of the work week. Models tout a notable increase in longer period E/ESE swell over the Memorial Day Weekend, and then again next week, produced by the fetch associated several slow moving open ocean lows (extra-tropical in nature) well out in the Atlantic, combined with the lengthy stretch of moderate trade winds north of the low (along the belly of the Bermuda High). The swell should be a multiple-day event starting late Friday and stretching through the holiday weekend. The swell will have ups and downs, and should have a first peak in size Saturday afternoon/Sunday morning, then linger well into the following work week with another peak likely mid-week. Latest guidance suggests scattered thunderstorms will be possible forming inland along the sea breeze (then drifting SW) early in the holiday weekend, though the start of the summer rainy season will be spotty at best. I will expand on the wind/waves weather and spit out some #’s with a day to day break it down when I see reason to do so. Stay tuned…

5-DAY SURF FORECAST (0900May 26)

THURSDAY: Wind light SSW/S early, then S/SE 5-15 mph in the afternoon with waves up a smidgen to 0.5-1′ (+/-0.5′) in 8 second period SE/ESE wind swell.
FRIDAY: The E/SE fetch extending out into the Atlantic is forecast to expand, allowing the small/weak Bermuda high ”trade wind” swell to spread out in period and acquire a bit more “punch” by the end of the work week, building in the afternoon to 1-1.5′ (+/-0.5′) in 8-9 second SE/ESE swell. Wind will be light SSW/S in the morning, followed by a fresh beach-cooling SE sea breeze in the afternoon.
SATURDAY/SUNDAY: The ESE swell will bounce up into the 1-2′ (occ + set waves possible south areas late Saturday and on Sunday) in ESE/ENE mix swell, spreading out in period to 9-10 seconds. Wind will be lightest in the morning, with a sea breeze expected each afternoon (stronger and  earlier  on Sunday).
MEMORIAL DAY INTO JUNE: Looks like an extended run of 1-2′  (up/down) easterly swell at a minimum through midweek. The onshore flow is forecast to freshen from the east through the first half of the work week as the western extension of the strengthening Bermuda High extends across the Florida peninsula. This typical summer weather pattern will keep us in rideable (though choppy) surf through most of the first week in June, keeping the dog day duldroms at bay to start the summer surf season.

NOTE ON THE UPCOMING HURRICANE SEASON
Following the progressive weather pattern in place through the first half of April with cold fronts periodically clearing Florida every 4-5 days, a seasonal shift in the storm track well to the north will be the rule through the month of May. With this transition, meaningfull swells will become fewer and farther between as we near the start of summer.  The extrememly early debut of the sub-tropical low in over the SW Atlantic in mid-April, in combination with a persistently strong Bermuda High (which is a major steering component for tropical systems) has me-gut a grumblin’ about the upcoming ‘cane season in Florida.   NOAA just released their 2011 call and they said their is a 70% probability of the following:
The conditions expected this hurricane season have historically produced some active Atlantic hurricane seasons. Therefore, the 2011 season could see activity comparable to a number of active seasons since 1995. We estimate the following ranges of activity during 2011:

Surf Station | Updated Surf Report & Blog!: "6:45 am… Small weak surf again today. On the local buoy the wave height measurement is 2.6 feet at 4 seconds changed from yesterdays 2.3 feet at 3 seconds. The ground swell reading is 1.0 feet at 10 seconds changed from yesterdays 1.3 feet at 8.3 seconds. Both these reading are a tad bigger than yesterday.

At the pier we have early SSW winds at 3-4 knots.

7:35 am… Early morning surf photos are up in box #1 and you can see it’s not flat. Small scale ESE lines that may be a tad bigger than yesterday at this time. A few spread out readings on the local buoy hint at a slight increase. Not much though. The tide is backing out, and will be low around 10 am…

New front yard! Random act of kindness!

So today has been a great day! I woke and didn't break my face with hard boiled eggs. lol ha-ha. Slept in till 11-am, there was a lot of mental stimuli going on, and sometimes all the commotion going on in are hacktive lives can be stressful. However the past few nights i haven't blogged. So as i was saying to day is a good one and its not through yet. As I was saying moring was great woke up had myself some beefkist, yum. Spent time with my fine little fiancee, did some yard work, and had a nice relaxing saturday afternoon. We now have, some what of curb appeal. Sweet. Now for are neighbors I need not to say. Ohh how could i forget the random act of kindness and honesty, that I par taked off. So this guy on a moped/scooter, what seemed to be he was searching for something. Well after he rifled thorough his belongings he scooted off. Right then after that I saw a $5 dollar bill, being wisped throughout the air. I ran over picked up the $5 dollar bill and started waving my hands in the air to get the gentlemen's attention. I got his attention and returned his gas money had been searching for the whole time. He filled up and i filled up with joy. A few other people at the gas station applauded.  Well thats it for now. Lisa is cooking dinner and im gonna do some more blogging. 5 day surf forcast

    SHORT-TERM (Days 1-2)
The noteable increase in ground swell that we enjoyed late last week and early in the weekend, associated with the fetch produced by a slow moving vertically stacked open ocean low moving slowly through our ENE swell widow for several days, is now a tit-scab mamory. The persistent offshore wind flow through mid-week will produce dreaded “Lake Atlantic” conditions along Florida’s east coast and an extended period of very small to flat surf.
    LONG TERM (Days 3-5)
Following several days of moderate to offshore wind and no swell source in our Atlantic swell window, we should see some improvement late in the work week extending over the weekend as the wind comes on around onshore again from the E/SE, generating a moderate ESE fetch extending out over the western Atlantic north of the Bahamas, allowing a small trade wind swell starting late Thursday/Friday, peaking in the 1-1.5′ range (occ 2′ at times) over the weekend. Looking out beyond the 5-day, latest model runs suggest a moderate-size ENE ground swell will arrive around the middle of next week from an intense but distant north Atlantic storm system. If additional runs backup the suggestion, I will incorporate into the forecast. Stay tuned…

    5-DAY SURF FORECAST (0800 May 18)
WEDNESDAY: After an unseasonably cool/crisp late spring morning, wind easing to W/WSW 5-15 mph with waves bottoming out at 0-1/2′ in nearly non-existant dribble.
THURSDAY: Waves starting out near flat with wind west 5-11 mph in the morning. A fresh afternoon sea breeze will increase to 6-15 mph from the SE, producing a junky 1/2-occ 1′ wind-chop swell late in the day.
FRIDAY: Wind SE/ESE 5-15 mph with waves up a bit to 1-occ 1.5′ in SE/ESE wind swell.
THE WEEKEND: The onshore flow should continue, and with a decent ESE fetch extending well out into the Atlantic we should see a small but highly rideable Bermuda high ”trade wind” swell hold over the weekend in the 1-1.5′ (occ 2′) range. Look for updates and tweaks to this call as the work week progresses.
NEXT WEEK: A moderate ground swell from a distant storm system may be in the works. Check the Long Term discussion above and watch for incorporation into the forecast if future data supports the model’s suggestion.

Surf Station | Updated Surf Report & Blog!

Surf Station | Updated Surf Report & Blog!: "6:40 am.. Really close to flat this morning. Light onshore winds. On the local buoy the ground swell measurement is 1.0 feet at 6.2 seconds, changed from yesterdays 0.7 feet at 8.3 seconds

Checking in the at pier, the wind is SE at 9-10 knots.

7:10 am… Early morning photos are up in box #1 and you can see it’s near flat. Flat and choppy. Uggg. But it is yet another great St. Augustine sunrise…

11:30 am… Late morning surf photos are up in box #2 and as you can see it does not look too appealing. Waves are barely knee high on the sets with an increasing ESE Wind…"

    My first Blog.

Well I don't know, really where to start! I could introduce myself. My name is Eric, and this is where I start my life story. I'm 25yrs young now. Just had a birthday this march 2011, bought a house with my gorgeous fiancée. Plan on getting married in sept 2011. Date is set for 9/10/11, easy to remember right! Needs to be for me, since my memory isn't the best. Kinda like the movie momento, where the movie plays in reverse, and the main character places sticky notes all over to remember. I have alot going for me and what better time to start blogging then now. I started this blog for people to read comment and enjoy my stories. So enjoy and leave your comments.
